A three-day expo 'Indonesia Fair 2019' will kick off in the capital tomorrow (Thursday) aiming to help boost its bilateral trade with Bangladesh.

To be held at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB), the second edition of the event will offer matchmaking platforms among the businesses of both the countries.

Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh Rina P. Soemarno made the announcement at a press conference held at a city hotel on Tuesday.

Indonesian embassy's Third Secretary (information, social and cultural) Murni Nyaristi, and a director of Indonesia Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI) Mostafa Q. Sobhan attended the conference.

The embassy is organising the exposition, which will also showcase the Southeast Asian nation's culture and tourism opportunities for the visitors.

Briefing the newsmen about the fair Ambassador Rina P. Soemarno said the fair will help the business people from both the countries expand their activities through partnership.

"Both Bangladesh and Indonesia are developing countries with similarities in many aspects," she said, adding that the two countries have been trusted partners for each other's development for many years.

The fair is not merely a trade show, as there will be other programmes to present Indonesian culture and tourism industry to the visitors.

According to the organisers, around 40 exhibitors will showcase different Indonesian products such as batik, fashion jewelry, handicraft, foods and beverages and automotives.

The visiting businesses will also showcase trade in services like tourism information.

A number of Indonesia's major state-owned corporations representing energy, aviation and heavy industry like PT Pertamina, PT INKA and Garuda Maintenance Facility-GMF Aeroasia will take part in the fair.

A discussion on bilateral trade between the two countries titled 'Indonesia-Bangladesh Business and Investment Forum' will be held on Friday afternoon.

On the sidelines of the fair, there will be various events - fashion show, cultural programme, product demo and business to business (B2B) matchmaking sessions.

Individuals willing to see the exhibition can visit without entry fee from 11:00am to 8:00pm on the first two days of the event, but there is an entry deadline on the concluding day at 6:30pm.

In the last few years, Indonesia-Bangladesh two-way trades continued to increase steadily.

The total value of trades between the two countries reached US $1.97 billion in 2018, which is an increase of 48 per cent compared to 2016.
