FE Report | December 05, 2017 00:00:00

The 11th Asian International Trade and Tourism Expo 2017 begins at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Dhaka on December 12, aiming to give impetus to the country's economy.

The five-day event is expected to offer opportunities for greater interactions among local and global businesses at one place.

Three more exhibitions -- 'Beauty and Fitness Expo 2017, 'Kids and Toys Expo 2017' and 'Bangladesh International Trade Fair 2017' -- will be held simultaneously along with the tourism expo, the organisers said at a press conference in the city on Monday.

About 220 organisations from home and 10 other countries, including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan, Malaysia and Vietnam, will join the expositions organised by the Conference and Exhibition Management Services (CEMS) Ltd.

They will showcase various products -- electronics, communication technology, foods and beverages, home decoration materials, fashion, beauty, baby-care and toys -- in the fair, the organisers said.

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu will inaugurate the expositions as the chief guest.

Addressing the press conference, President and Group Managing Director (MD) of CEMS Global Meherun N Islam said the tourism sector, if promoted properly, could contribute a lot to the economy.

The tourism fair will help traders and tour operators boost their businesses, she said.

The expositions will remain open from 10:30am to 9:00pm daily.
