CHATTOGRAM, Dec 10: Malaysian High Commissioner in Bangladesh Nur Ashikin Mohd Taib on Monday showed her country's eagerness to make investment in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh has made extensive development for which the businesses of their country were eagerly waiting to invest in this country, she observed.

"However, the entrepreneurs have stressed the need for establishing direct communication between the businesses of both the countries," she said while exchanging views with Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) president Mahbubul Alam at World Trade Centre in Chattogram city.

CCCI vice president Syed Jamal Ahmed, director AKM Aktar Hossain, former director MA Bakar and councillor of the High Commission Idham were also present at the meeting.

The Malaysian envoy praised Bangladesh for its upgradation to the status of a developing country from least developed country (LDC).

She said the Malaysian government was taking very encouraging and effective steps for expanding bilateral trade and business with the developing countries.

Bangladesh can fully exploit such an advantage and both the countries can play a stronger role in raising different issues at international forums.

Mr Mahbubul Alam said the port city plays an important role not only in the context of Bangladesh but also in global perspective.

"Bangladesh and Malaysia have been maintaining an excellent friendly relationship," he said.

Both the countries have huge growth potential, but it could not reach expected level in trade and business due to huge trade deficit, he noted.

The CCCI president also sought special initiative from the Malaysian high commissioner for further enhancement of bilateral economic relations.

He said the Bangladesh government offers a lucrative package of facilities and amended rules regarding the investment to attract global entrepreneurs.

He sought relocation of the Malaysian industries to the thriving industrial economic zones in Bangladesh.

Both the countries can launch direct container vessel and passenger services between Chattogram port and Penang port and direct flight between Chattogram Airport and Kuala Lumpur Airport.

The Malaysian envoy later visited the ongoing third international SME Fair organised by the CCCI and the exhibition hall of the WTC.
