A bill titled 'Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) Bill 2018' was placed in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) on Tuesday, reports UNB.

The bill has a provision for fines and jail term for defying BADC notices and damaging its property.

Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury placed the bill and it was sent to the parliamentary standing committee concerned for further examination.

The committee was asked to submit its scrutiny report within 10 days.

Under the proposed law, a 16-member Board of Directors will be formed and they will sit in a meeting every three months.

If anyone (farmer) defies any notice issued by the BADC, he or she will be fined Tk 10,000, according to the bill.

Besides, if any boundary wall or any establishment of BADC is damaged, the persons responsible will have to face six months' jail or pay a fine of Tk 10,000, or both.

Anyone grabbing the land of BADC will also face the same punishment, according to the bill.
