The government is going to establish a world-class software testing and certification centre soon in an attempt to take the country's software industry forward.

"The main objective of establishing such a centre is to verify and validate the software system in government offices, to create awareness and elevate the software testing industry in the country to build the capacity of supporting the desired growth in the software testing arena," said Mohammad Saiful Alam Khan, director of Software Quality Testing and Certification Center project.

The centre is being established at Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC), reports BSS.

The project director sounded upbeat, saying that such a centre has become indispensable for establishing Bangladesh as a powerhouse of the software industry, while meeting the demand for Bangladeshi software on the global market.

"At the minimum, the centre could conduct training programmes that will produce functional testers, test automation engineers, performance test engineers, security test engineers, mobile test engineers, test managers, and project and programme managers," Mr Khan added.

He also said the center would also be useful for software-testing, software development life-cycle (SDLC), software project management and agile project management.

While talking about the progress of the project, Mr Khan said that the infrastructure has already been improved at the council, trainings are being given to its staff members, software quality is being tested at the centre

and the work on Test Maturity Model Integration (TMMI)-3 certification has been launched to take the standard of the centre to at the international level.

"It was very hard to ensure the quality of the locally-developed software because many of the products are faulty or infected with bugs," said State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak.

He said against this backdrop, the government decided to establish the software testing and certification centre to ensure quality of the software in the country.

"It will also help boost our software export and will pave the way for Digital Economy," he added.

"Establishing such a centre would definitely play a helping role in maintaining international standard in producing and exporting software," president of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) Mustafa Jabbar told the news agency.

He said the software testing and certification centre was a strong step forward of the government, which is doing many things to facilitate the ICT sector.
