Newly-elected BGMEA office-bearers take over

New office-bearers of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) took over the charge of the trade body officially on Saturday for the term of 2019-21.

Dr Rubana Huq has become the new and first female president of BGMEA.

Outgoing president of the trade body Md Siddiqur Rahman and his board handed over the charge to the new board of directors in its 36th annual general meeting (AGM) held at the new BGMEA complex at Uttara in the city.

The other new office bearers are: first vice-president Mohammed Abdus Salam, senior vice-president Faisal Samad and vice-presidents SM Mannan Kochi, MA Rahim, Arshad Jamal Dipu, Md Moshiul Azam Shajal and AM Chowdhury Selim.

On April 06 the Sammilita Forum led by Ms Huq swept the biennial election to BGMEA bagging all 35 posts of director.

"Victory is a humbling experience. Along with victory comes a huge responsibility of steering the sector forward," the new BGMEA president said at the AGM.

She promised that the current board and she would look forward to working with utmost transparency and commitment to provide maximum services to the stakeholders.
