Milk Vita imports 100 more Indian buffaloes

Benapole, July 20: The last consignment of 100 buffaloes imported from India's Haryana state by the Milk Vita reached the country on Thursday night. The buffaloes, including 50 calves, were imported through Benapole port. They were released from the port at around 11:30pm after necessary formalities. The first consignment of 100 buffaloes reached the country through the port on May 09. The Milk Vita, state-owned cooperative dairy farm, took the move to import buffaloes to boost the milk production in its Sirajganj plant. — UNB

Walton Hi-Tech gets award

Walton Hi-Tech Industries Limited (WHIL), a sister concern of the country's electronics giant Walton Group, has been honoured with National Environment Award 2018. The company received the award under the 'Conservation of Environment and Pollution Control' category. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over the award to the company's Vice-chairman SM Shamsul Alam at the inaugural ceremony of the 'National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair 2018' at the Bangabandhu International Convention Centre in the city on Wednesday. — UNB

REB to give 2.5m new connections

The Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) has undertaken a plan to install 50,000 km electricity lines and give 2.5 million new connections during 2018-19 fiscal year. "The BREB has already brought 240 upazilas under 100 per cent power coverage and a process is underway to bring the remaining 220 upazilas under 100 per cent electricity coverage," an official of the power ministry told BSS on Thursday. — BSS
