Agro tech fair begins today

An agricultural technology exhibition begins in the city today (Thursday), focusing on the use of modern technology to boost crop production. The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) in cooperation with USAID's Agriculture Value Chain (AVC) Project is organising the two-day exhibition titled 'DCCI Agro Tech-2018' at the International Convention City Bashundhara at Kuril. Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury will inaugurate the exposition and Secretary of the ministry of science and technology Md Anwar Hossain will be present as special guest. The exhibition will bring together agro-entrepreneurs, agro-processors, modern agro-machinery importers, exporters, financial institutions and researchers. The fair will remain open for all from 10:00am to 08:00pm daily. Adoption of modern technology and instruments are now the demand of time for overall development of the agriculture sector, according to sector insiders.— FE Report

Ferry service in Buragouranga river opens

Patuakhali, May 2: A new ferry service in the Buragouranga River in Galachipa upazila was inaugurated on Wednesday, aiming to mitigate sufferings of people as well as ease communication system. Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan and Jahangir Hossain MP jointly inaugurated the new service. The ferry service has connected routes of Charkajol, Charbiswash of Galachipa upazila, Char Borhan of Dashmina upazila and Charmontaj of Rangabali upazila and 70 villages of Mujibnagar union of Charfashion upazila in Bhola district. The ferry 'Ketky' is capable of carrying 20-25 vehicles. Two jetties in Badnatoli and Charshiba were set up, said Mamun Ur Rashid, executive engineer of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority. — UNB

US car sales dip

US auto sales declined an estimated 5.0 per cent in April from an especially strong April the year before. But even as deliveries fell, prices and overall costs of vehicle ownership are still on the rise. The average price of a new car in April was $35,411, up 2.0 per cent from the same month last year, according to car valuation and automotive research company Kelley Blue Book.
