PRAN Dairy has organised an awareness-raising programme for farmers for safe milk production in the country, says a statement.

The programme was inaugurated at the PRAN Dairy Complex at Shahjadpur in Sirajganj district on Wednesday.

Speakers at the programme underscored the need for ensuring the supply of proper and adequate food for feeding the cattle and their proper treatment with the view to ensuring safe milk production.

They advised the farmers to rear cows and milking in healthy environment as well as preservation of milk and transportation of milk maintaining hygiene and cold chain.

The speakers noted that antibiotic without prescription of veterinary doctors should not be used by dairy farmers. They said after using antibiotic, farmers should not sale or consume the milk for specific time. Harmful things can be found in milk for using polluted water and grass, they cautioned.

Cows should be provided with safe and deep tubewell water, they viewed.

Rakibur Rahman, Chief Dairy Extension of PRAN Dairy said PRAN Dairy has 12,000 contract farmers in five dairy hubs situated in the northern districts of Bangladesh. "This programme, aiming to produce safe milk through building awareness among the farmers, will be continued (in near future)," he added.

Mayor of Shahajadpur Municipality Nasir Uddin, Sirajganj District Livestock Officer Aktaruzzaman Bhuiyan, Shahajadpur Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Mijanur Rahman, Upazila Sanitary Inspector Afroza Akhter Sultana and representative of Bangladesh Food Safety Authority & Ullapara Upazila Livestock Officer Shariful Islam were also present, among others, at the programme.
