Stop recruiting foreigners in accounting functions: ICMAB

A delegation of Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) called on Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Kazi M Aminul Islam at his office in the city on Tuesday.

ICMAB President M Abul Kalam Mazumdar led the delegation, reports BSS.

Abul Kalam Mazumdar apprised BIDA Executive Chairman Aminul Islam about the role of cost and management accountants in enterprise management, cost control and performance evaluation of business and industrial undertakings.

He said ICMAB has got global standard academic curriculum and is producing highly-skilled professional accountants to meet the demand for accounting expertise in the country.

He also informed the BIDA chairman that some companies are appointing foreign nationals in accounting and financial functions despite the availability of local personnel in similar skills and expertise.

The employment of foreign nationals, especially in accounting and financial functions, is causing increased unemployment, noted the ICMAB president.

He requested the BIDA chairman to take necessary measures to stop the appointment of overseas accountants to work in Bangladesh.

The BIDA executive chairman acknowledged the role of the professional accountants in the country's economic development.

He assured the ICMAB delegation of his support for the development of the cost and management accounting profession.

ICMAB Council Member and former president Mohammed Salim and Director Nazmus Salehin were present during the meeting.
