The country's tourism destinations would experience a surge in the number holidaymakers during the Eid vacation, sources have said.

Besides, a good number of people are also travelling to other countries' tourism attractions to make the best use of the vacation, they added.

They also said most of the domestic tourists opt for tourism attractions in Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati and Sylhet.

Contacted, President of Tour Operator Owners Association of Cox's Bazar (TOAC) M Rezaul Karim said the hotel, motel and guest houses in the region have already received huge number of reservations mostly for the next several days, following the Eid day.

"As far as I am aware, I can say over 80 per cent of accommodation facilities have already been booked by the holidaymakers," he said.

All of the holidaymakers do not stay during the night, he said, adding that a huge number of tourists come to the Cox's Bazar for a day long trip from the neighbouring regions.

Some 0.4 to 0.5 million eid holidaymakers are likely to visit Cox's Bazar during the Eid vacation, said Mr. Karim.

Responding to a query, he said the country has been witnessing a declining trend in the number of foreign tourists in the recent years due to many reasons.

"Though we are receiving lesser number of international tourists, we are getting gradually increased number of domestic tourists thanks to the country's economic growth," he said.

The adverse weather like heavy rain could be a problem for the tourists, he feared.

A director of Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB) Syed Shafat Uddin Ahmed Tomal said a good number of Bangladeshi tourists also visit other countries during the Eid vacation.

"Bangladeshi people mostly visit countries like India, Nepal, Bhutan, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia," he said.

With his hospitality, over 130 people are flying abroad to enjoy their leisure, said Mr Tomal, who is Managing Director of Market n-Trance Ltd.

Md Moniruzzaman Masum, MD of Tourism Window, said that through his agency, over hundred guests are travelling to tourism destinations like Kashmir, Darjeeling, Nepal, Bhutan and Thailand.

Besides, a group of domestic tourists is visiting Cox's Bazaar and Bandarban during the Eid vacation through his organisation, he said. He added that the Sundarbans is now closed for the tourists.

According to sources, over 1.0 million people make domestic tourism to various destinations inside the country, while approximately 0.3 million go abroad centering the vacation.

Recreation centers like theme parks and resorts nearby the capital city are also getting prepared to welcome increased number of guests during the vacation.

The people are enjoying three-day Eid vacation starting from today (Tuesday). However, the vacation will be followed by other public holidays and personal leaves in cases of many.
