Two garment factories at Ashulia shut over workers' unrest

Savar Correspondent | September 05, 2019 00:00:00

Authorities shut down two garment factories over workers' unrest for the last four days at Ashuliya of Savar-on the outskirts of the capital.

Suddenly the authorities notified on Wednesday morning that the factory would remain shut for an indefinite period of time.

Earlier, workers of those factories had been demonstrating for the last four days over dismissing their 58 colleagues.

The demonstrator alleged that Eske Clothing Limited and Naba Knit Composite Limited sacked 28 and 30 workers respectively with implausible excuses, and even the employers beat up the protesting demonstrators by hiring miscreants without any logical reason.

Earlier, Naba Knit Composite Limited sacked 30 workers on August 29 on various grounds and banned the use of mobile phones by workers inside the factory on the same day. Contacted, Adam Ali, manager (HR and Compliance) of Naba Knit Composite Limited, said that they dismissed the workers after clearing their dues according to the law.
