UKBCCI wants to invest in apparel, banking, ICT, infrastructure sectors

A delegation of the UK Bangladesh Catalysts of Commerce and Industry (UKBCCI) has evinced its interest to make investment in Bangladesh's apparel, banking, ICT, infrastructures and consumers' goods sector.

The 23-member UKBCCI delegation expressed the interest during a meeting with Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Kazi M Aminul Islam at his office in the city on Tuesday.

The delegation was led by the UKBCCI Chairman Iqbal Ahmed at the meeting, a statement issued by the BIDA said.

Welcoming the delegation, the BIDA executive chairman said Bangladesh has become a place of confidence for safe investment. The country's good invest environment will encourage the British businesses to finance various schemes here, he said.

"The scenario of Bangladesh has significantly improved in the recent times compared to earlier days, Kazi Aminul Islam said.

"Bangladesh's GDP doubled in the last one decade when the global economy went through a crisis," he observed.

The amount of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country increased by 68 per cent in the last year compared to that in the previous year, he noted.

He also mentioned about various factors which are favourable for making investing in Bangladesh including its demographic dividend, socio economic stability and the rising number of middle class communities.

The UKBCCI chief Iqbal Ahmed said third and fourth generation British-Bangladeshis have been working in various sectors across the globe with remarkable success.

The young entrepreneurs posses sheer interests about Bangladesh, who are also expected to play a major role for the country's development, he added.

The visiting delegation, which arrived in Bangladesh on June 14 and is scheduled to stay here till June 21, will explore investment opportunities in different areas of Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet, the statement said.
