Women entrepreneurs to get all support: Humayun

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun assured the women entrepreneurs of support by the government in getting quota for setting up shops and establishments at markets in the country to facilitate them in running their businesses.

He gave the assurance while addressing as the chief guest an award-giving ceremony, organised by Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI), styled the 'BWCCI Progressive Award', in the capital on Saturday.

Chaired by BWCCI President and lawmaker Selima Ahmad, the ceremony was attended by Country Director of Asian Development Bank (ADB) Manmohan Parkash and Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank SM Moniruzzaman as special guests.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Eastern Bank Ltd Ali Reza Iftekhar and Managing Director & CEO of Agrani Bank Mohammad Shams-Ul Islam participated at the event as guests of honour and sponsors of the programme. BWCCI Vice President Sangita Ahmed was also present.

Eight women entrepreneurs from the country's eight divisions received the 'BWCCI Progressive Award 2017 and 2018' for their significant achievements in businesses.

Tahamina Morshed received the award from Barisal division, Nayan Salena from Chattogram, Rehana Akter from Dhaka, Nurjahan Khanom from Khulna, Jannatus Safa Shahinur from Rangpur, Mala Sarker from Rajshahi, Suhana Rahman Chowdhury from Sylhet and Saida Akhter from Mymensingh division got the prestigious awards.

Besides, BWCCI award was also given to two media representatives for their contributions to development of women entrepreneurship in the country. Senior Reporter from Somoy TV Emtieaj Ahmed Shohel received in electronics media category while Daily Prothom Alo Senior Reporter Mansura Hossain in print media category.

The industries miniser handed over the awards to the winners which included a trophy, a certificate and prize money. He also assured of providing all supports from his ministry for the development of women entrepreneurs.
