Workshop on WTO for journos begins

A three-day training workshop on trade and World Trade Organisation (WTO) for the journalists of different print media began in the capital on Monday.

The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) arranged the workshop titled "Trade and WTO: A Special Course for Journalists (Print Media)" at the virtual class room of MBA Bhaban at the Faculty of Business Studies of Dhaka University (DU).

The Centre for Microfinance and Development of DU is conducting the training course. Commerce Secretary Md Mofizul Islam inaugurated the programme as the chief guest.

The first day was divided into several sessions that discussed the issues of background and basic principles of the WTO, WTO agreements, an overview of the WTO agricultural agreement and an overview of the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS).

Commerce Secretary Md Mofizul Islam, Director General (DG) of the WTO Cell at the MoC Md Munir Chowdhury, Director (Joint Secretary) of the WTO Cell Md Hafizur Rahman and Director of BFTI Nesar Ahmed, and Prof Jahangir Alam Chowdhury of the Department of Finance of DU shared their thoughts on the first day of the event.
