Fans wanting to watch Sunday's Cricket World Cup final at Lords were being asked for more than £16,000 for a top ticket, more than 50 times their face value, reports https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) have appealed for fans who do not want to attend the game between New Zealand and England to return their tickets so they can be sold to other genuine supporters at face value.

Cricket lovers have until midday today (Saturday) to return tickets to the ICC website rather than selling them to ticketing sites on the internet.

Many tickets were originally snapped up by Indian fans who expected their team to reach the final before they were beaten by New Zealand on Wednesday in the first semi-final.

The ICC played down suggestions that Lord's may not be full given that nearly half the 30,000 tickets were originally sold to India fans.

It is understood from the ICC that while 41 per cent of the ticket holders are registered as India supporters, almost all that number are UK citizens and they are expected to turn up.

Meanwhile, 45 per cent of those owning tickets say they are England fans.

In the months before the tournament began fans could buy top rated Platinum tickets for £395, Gold for £295, Silver for £195 and Bronze for £95 for the 30,000 capacity Lord's ground.

However, the StubHub ticket website was offering tickets for as much as £12,150, £7,896 and £5,548.

Following England's victory, a ticket in the Compton Stand Upper was being offered for more than £16,584 - more than 56 times its face value of £395 each.

Prices are expected to rise in the next 48 hours as England is gripped by cricket fever.
