Starc, Root set new records as Smith equals Tendulkar's World Cup knockouts 50-plus

Australia's Mitchell Starc and England's Joe Root broke two all-time World Cup records during the ICC?World?Cup 2019 semifinal encounter between England and Australia on Thursday. Australia's former skipper Steven Smith equalled Sachin Tendulkar's record with his fourth 50-plus score in World Cup knockouts.

Starc sets record for most wickets at a single World Cup

Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc set a new record for most wickets at a single World Cup when he had England's Jonny Bairstow lbw in the semi-finals at Edgbaston on Thursday.

That gave the left-arm quick his 27th wicket of the 2019 tournament, breaking the record of 26 for a single edition he had previously shared with retired Australia paceman Glenn McGrath. McGrath had taken 26 wickets in Australia's victorious campaign in the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies.

Joe Root breaks 16-year-old record

With 12 catches, Joe Root left behind former Australia captain Ricky Ponting's record of 11 grabs in 2013. South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis and Root's teammate Jonny Bairstow round up the top-3 with 10 and 9 catches respectively to their names in the ongoing World Cup.

Smith equals Tendulkar's record in World Cup knockouts

Australia's former skipper Steven Smith has equalled the record of Sachin Tendulkar in the knockout matches of the World Cup. Smith scored his fourth fifty of the knockout matches in the ODI showpiece.
