LONDON, June 26 (Agencies): Aaron Finch and David Warner have become the first openers in World Cup history to score five successive half-century partnerships.

They have been quite consistent at the top of the innings for Australia in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 and during their group stage encounter against England on Tuesday, putting on 123 for the first-wicket.

World Cup leading run-scorer Warner made his fifth 50+ score from seven innings before being caught at point off the bowling of Moeen Ali.

Finch went on to score his second century of the campaign, departing for exactly 100 after finally being dismissed by Jofra Archer.

The Australian pair of Mark Waugh and Ricky Ponting hold the record for the most successive 50+ stands at any position in the World Cups with seven between 1996 & 1999 (all for the second wicket).

They have century stands of 146 against Pakistan, 173 against Sri Lanka, and the 123 against England.

They are averaging 91.71, making them the second most successful opening pair in World Cups after Upul Tharanga and Tillakaratne Dilshan, who averaged 100 for Sri Lanka in 2011 over nine innings.
