What happens if semifinals, final matches get rained out

The first semi-final of ICC World Cup 2019 between India and New Zealand today (Tuesday) is likely to be affected by rain, with a weather forecast of a light shower in Manchester. According to the British MET department, there is a possibility of "cloudier skies and some showery rain developing at times" today (Tuesday).

The MET department has predicted a 50 per cent chance of rain at 10 am local time on Tuesday which may result in the match getting delayed. The clouds are expected to clear the skies only after 1 pm local time.

Reserve Days

Both semi-finals have reserve days. If rain does not allow play after several overs today (Tuesday), play will resume on Wednesday (July 10) for India and New Zealand. However, if the game is washed out, India will reach the final because they have more points than New Zealand. India, with 15 points in nine matches, finished ahead of New Zealand (11 points) in the league stage.

In case the Australia vs England World Cup 2019 semi-final is washed out on the reserve day, the holders will make it to the final because they have accumulated more points from the league stage.

Efforts would be made to finish the game on the scheduled day. The Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method could also come to feature if it seems possible to decide a winner with revised overs and targets.

However, even after doing so, the minimum number of overs necessary to constitute a match could not be bowled on the scheduled day, then the match would be continued on the reserve day.

If the overs are reduced due to any unforced interruption, the match would resume on the reserve day from the point where it was left on the scheduled day.

Super Over

If a semi-final is tied then Super Over comes into play to determine a winner. But, if weather prevents the Super Over from being completed, it would be finished on the reserve day.

In normal circumstances, it shall start 10 minutes after the conclusion of the match. Each team will be allowed to have one review during the Super Over.

For final

If both the days are washed out, then the two teams will share the trophy. If it ends in a tie, then there will be a super over to decide the winner.
