US to close Palestinian mission in Washington

JERUSALEM, Sept 10: The United States (US) has decided to close the Palestinian mission in Washington in the latest move against them by President Donald Trump, who has been trying to force the Palestinians to negotiate, a Palestinian official said Monday. "We have been notified by a US official of their decision to close the Palestinian mission to the US," Palestine Liberation Organisation secretary-general Saeb Erekat said in a statement. — AFP

Sudan rescues 94 human traffic victims, 85 minors

PARIS, Sept 10: Police in Sudan have rescued 94 victims of human trafficking - including 85 minors - from open-air goldmines near Khartoum and the city's international airport, among other places. A statement on Monday by Interpol, which coordinated the August 26-30 operation, said that so far 14 people, 12 of them women, have been arrested. — AP

7-magnitude quake hits Kermadec Islands

BEIJING, Sept 10: A 7-magnitude earthquake hit the Kermadec Islands, New Zealand at 12:18 p.m. Monday (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Centre (CENC). The epicentre, with a depth of 120 km, was monitored at 31.95 degrees south latitude and 179.25 degrees west longitude, the centre said in a statement. — Xinhua

Husband 'kills wife, toddler children' in Australia home

PERTH, Sept 10: A 24-year-old man killed his wife, three toddlers and mother-in-law at their suburban family home, where he remained for several days before turning himself in, Australian police said Monday. The alleged murders are the third such family tragedy to rock Western Australia state in recent months. Police charged Anthony Robert Harvey with the murders of his two-year-old twins Alice and Beatrix, his three-year-old daughter Charlotte and his 41-year-old wife Mara in the southwestern city of Perth. — AFP
