World leaders gathering again at climate talks

KATOWICE, Nov 28: Three years after sealing a landmark global climate deal in Paris, world leaders are gathering again to agree on the fine print. Top of the agenda during talks starting on Sunday in Katowice, Poland, will be finalising the so-called Paris rulebook, which determines how countries have to count their greenhouse gas emissions, report them to the rest of the world and reveal what they are doing to reduce them. — AP

Lanka detains top military official

COLOMBO, Nov 28: Sri Lanka's highest-ranking military officer was remanded by a court Wednesday after weeks evading arrest for allegedly protecting the chief suspect in the murder of 11 people during the civil war. The Colombo Fort magistrate ordered that Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, the country's military chief, be held in custody for a week pending investigations into the abduction and murder of the young men between 2008 and 2009. — AFP

Georgia holds second round of presidential elections

TBILISI, Nov 28: Georgia kicked off its presidential election runoff on Wednesday to elect a new head of state for the next six years. According to the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia, during the second round of the presidential elections, voters will have to choose between the independent candidate Salome Zourabichvili supported by the ruling party Georgian Dream and the candidate of the United National Movement Grigol Vashadze. — Xinhua
