CHATTOGRAM, June 03: Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) today (Thursday) welcomed the budget for the next fiscal year (FY2021-22) and termed it pro-people and business-friendly one.

"The budget is for life and livelihoods," CCCI president Mahabubul Alam said, adding that the budget is a dream towards development of the country.

"The budget will help to create job opportunity as well as ensure the social security of the citizens."

"Decrease of taxes including corporate taxes will facilitate development in future. But, the government should ensure loan for industrialists and all others from the banks without any hazards," he said.

Mr Alam appreciated the allocation for the health sector and social safety net, but stressed on honesty, transparency and skills in implementation of the budget.

He also appreciated the proposal to extend time for submitting returns for the taxpayers who failed to submit returns due to coronavirus outbreak.

He said the decision to show the hidden assets by paying fixed taxes is always good. "Some decisions in the budget will help expand industrialisation."

The CCCI president said that waiving taxes on the raw materials for masks, PPE, etc. and allocation of Tk 100 billion for Covid-19 treatment will save people, he added.

He expected the process of development of Chattogram would be expedited following the budget.

Meanwhile, Chittagong Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CWCCI) president Monwara Hakim Ali termed the budget as a timely one, saying: "The world is suffering from Covid-19 fear. In this pandemic situation, the finance minister placed a budget which will help us face the situation with our limited assets."

She termed the budget pro-people, but expressed concern that the government would have to face challenges in its implementation due to higher deficit.

Ms Ali urged the finance minister to ensure loan for SMEs as well as female businessmen from the banks at easy terms. She expected that the government would implement the budget with transparency.
