10 hurt in ethnic groups\\\' clash in Pabna

PABNA, May 10: Over 10 indigenous people injured in a clash between two rival groups of indigenous community at Baghoil Koibari of Chatmohar Upazila in Pabna Friday night. Three were held in connection with the clash.

Police said the clash erupted between Swapan Mahato and Shreebash Mahato of the village over fishing in a disputed khas pond of the village. Sources said that Swapan Mahato and 25 others cultivated a pond taking lease from the government. But Shreebash Mahato tried to capture the pond.

Upazila fishery officer, Dipok Kumar Howlader held a meeting with the two groups in the village on Friday afternoon to solve the crises. After the meeting both groups locked into a clash over bargaining. Both groups used lethal weapons, leaving at least 10 people injured.
