10 killed in separate road accidents

HABIGANJ, May 23: Three people were killed and 2 others injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Mirpur under Bahubal in Habiganj Wednesday.
Highway police and local said, a stone loaded truck was going to Sylhet and the truck lost control and hit three brickfield laboures.
The diseased were identified as Shamsu Miah (27), son of Abdal Miah, Lal Miah (25), son of Dulu Miah and Sofor Ali (27). They are all from village Chargow Hafijpur under Mirpur Union of Bahubal. Highway police and Shaistaganj thana police recovered the dead bodies and sent those to Habiganj hospital morgue for autopsy.
BSS reports from Rajshahi: Four persons including two newspaper employees were killed and at least six others were injured seriously when a newspaper carrying pickup van collided head-on with a truck at Shibpurhat area on Rajshahi-Natore Highway under Puthiya Police Station of the district this morning.
The deceased were identified as pickup van driver Jahurul Islam, 30, Touhidul Islam, 35, son of Shukur Mollah and Ripon, 30, son of Bilal Sheikh both of Bogra Kajipur and Abu Bakkar, 65, of Natore Boraigram.
Quoting witnesses police said the Rajshahi-bound pickup van collided head-on with a sand loaded truck at around 8 am leaving driver Jahurul Islam killed on the spot and many others injured.
Local people rushed the injured persons to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital immediately where three of them succumbed to their injuries after a few minutes of admission.
Following the accident, many of the national newspapers couldn't reach to Rajshahi and its adjacent places, sources said.
Highway Police seized both the vehicles but driver of the truck managed to escape.
UNB reports from Tangail: At least three people were killed and five others injured as a truck crashed into a tempo at Salla in Kalihati upazila Wednesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Liakat Ali, 50, son of Azgar Ali of Gohaliabari village, Manik, 25, of Kurshabenu village of the upazila and Abdullah, 22, son of Abdur Rahman of Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj district.
Bangabandhu Bridge East thana OC Yunus Ali Mia said the speeding truck collided with the Alenga-bound tempo at about 6am in the area, leaving Liakat and Abdullah dead on the spot and six others injured.
The tempo driver Manik died on the way to hospital.
On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to hospital morgue for autopsy.
The injured were admitted to Tangail General Hospital. A case was filed.
