1,000 saplings planted in Madaripur


MADARIPUR, Sept 13 (BSS): In an effort to protect the environment and make the district greener, voluntary organisations Alor Pathshala and anti-drug movement Pakhira have planted 1,000 Krishnachura (Royal Poinciana) and Jarul (Queen Crape Myrtle) saplings in Sadar upazila.
The day-long programme was held on Saturday at Pakhira area under Khowajpur union in Sadar upazila.
The organisations have already planted 2,000 saplings in different parts of the district.
Asaduzzaman Saif, general secretary of Alor Pathshala, said, "We have taken the initiative to plant trees in response to the cutting of a banyan tree in Kandi area of Alammir in Shirkhara union. Today, we planted 1,000 Krishnachura and Jarul saplings."
