1131 hectares brought under sugarcane cultivation in Tangail

TANGAIL Feb 24: In the current season 1131 hectares of land were brought under sugarcane cultivation in the district. Sugarcane cultivation is gradually increasing at the sandy area of the district. Sandy land is the best to cultivate sugarcane, according to an expert.
A single sugarcane stick is being sold at the streets of the town at a price of Tk 10 to Tk 50.
A juice seller named Azhar Ali of village Beradoma under Tangail Pouroshava told the Financial Express that the people of the town like to drink sugarcane juice and all classes of people like it. Sometime they take it to heir home. Everyday he sells 50 to 75 kg of sugarcane juice and gets a handsome profit, he added.
A sugarcane cultivator Abdus Sattar of village Nallapara under sadar upazila said he cultivated 3 bighas of land and is hopeful of a bumper production.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Tangail sources said 1131 hectares of land were brought under sugarcane cultivation in the district with the production target of 54087 metric tonnes.
