135 'legends' accorded reception in Magura

MAGURA, Jan 28: A total of 135 legendary figures were accorded reception in Magura. Century old Raicharan Secondary School under Sreepur upazila of Magura arranged the reception ceremony at the school premises on Sunday.

All the legendary figures were former students of the school. Freedom fighters, language veteran, high officials of police, army and civil administration, journalists, teachers of school, college and university, poets, artists and industrialists were included among those honoured.

Local MP Saifuzzaman Shikhor was the chief guest at the reception ceremony while Magura Police Super Khan Md Rezoan was special guest with chairman of the school managing committee Humayan Rashid Muhit in the chair.

They distributed swing machine and blankets among 200 destitute women. The programme ended with a cultural show. Noted singers of the country performed in the show.

Our Correspondent adds: A joyous union of two Bengals was held in Magura.

Recitation club, Kanthabithi of Magura observed their 20th foundation anniversary. In observance of the anniversary they organised a two-day programme.

Rajshahi University Pro Vice Chancellor Ananda Kumar Shaha inaugurated the ceremony at Magura Asaduzzaman auditorium. Kantabithi brought out a grand rally in the town.

In the evening a recitation show was arranged in the auditorium. Noted recitation artistes of the country Istekbal Hossain, Rashed Hasan and Ahsanullah Tamal recited from different literary works.

Renowned artist of West Bengal Medha Bandopadhyay recited 10 poems including 'Na Pathano Chithi' composed by Shuvo Dasgupta, 'Keu Katha Rakheni' composed by Sunil Gangopadhyay and 'Tej' composed by Debobroto Singh.

Her outstanding performance enthralled the audience.

Earlier at a press conference she demanded port visa Between Bangladesh and India for cultural workers. Port visa will make cultural exchanges between the two Bengals easier and smoother, she opined.
