14 get life term for killing a youth in Netrakona

NETRAKONA, Sept 8 (BSS): A court here today sentenced 14 persons to imprisonment for life for killing a youth at North Sangkarpur village under Durgapur upazila of the district in 2004. The court also fined them Taka 50,000 each, in default, to suffer another five years of rigorous imprisonment. .

According to the court sources, the convicted persons are-Mati Miah, 45, Lutfur Rahman, 30, Nurul Islam, 36, Abdul Jalil, 46, Haider Ali, 30, Salim Miah, 23, Benu Miah, 35, Hafijuddin, 40, Abu Sayed, 38, Abdul Barek, 42, Abdul Jabbar, 60, Ramjan Ali, 45, Billal Hussain, 35, and Mehedi, 28.

The prosecution story, in brief, is that the convicts hacked Abdul Kuddus, 26, son of Rahmat Ali of the area, to death on August 18, 2004 following a clash between two rival groups.
