15 hurt in clash over land in Pabna

PABNA, May 19: At least 15 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups of AL and BNP at Kaitalo in Bera upazila of Pabna Tuesday noon over a disputed land.

Police said that two groups of AL and BNP clashed over a disputed land at around 1.00pm on Tuesday, leaving 15 people inured from both sides.

There had been a dispute over a land between AL leader Bera upazila vice-chairman Abu Sama Mollah and BNP leader Mosharaf Hossain.

When the news spread soon, huge numbers of supporters of the groups equipped with arms and weapons went to the spot. A chase and counter chase took place among the supporters of both groups, triggering a clash.

At one stage, the clashing groups used iron rods, hockey sticks, bamboo sticks and others sharp weapons, leaving 15 people injured. Some houses were ransacked and looted during the clash.

A tense situation was prevailing in the area following the incident.
