JKKNIU, Mar 18: At least 15 students of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) in Mymensingh were injured in a clash with locals at the second entry gate of the university on Monday.

The incident took place around 12:30 am over alleged distribution of rotten food items.

Witnesses said that the conflict initially erupted in Sareng Restaurant. The students came across rotten Iftar items allegedly served by the restaurant.

The students alleged that the restaurant owner and his employees often misbehaved with them as they spoke against low quality food served. Centring the issue, the students swooped on the restaurant.

Later two separate groups of locals and students attacked each other, leaving 15 students injured on the spot.

Proctor Associate Professor Shanjay Mukherjee said, "Police have been deployed on the campus to control the situation."
