1,536 flats to be built for landless people of Khulna

KHULNA, Apr 18: National Housing Authority has taken a plan to build 1,536 flats for landless people of Khulna at a cost of Tk 1.50 billion (150 crore) at city's Bastuhara Colony. The project has already been approved by the Housing Authority and sent to Works Ministry.
The authority has made a list for allocation before construction of the flats. The list has been made by the local lawmaker Begum Monnujan Shufian, the district administration and local people in 2013. The listed persons will get the flats after construction of the building and the cost of per flat would stand at Tk 0.97 million and will be paid in instalment in 20 years.
District Secretary of Sushasoner Jonno Nogorik (Sujon) Advocate Kudrat-E-Khuda said that the step for rehabilitation for landless people of Khulna is praiseworthy. But there is a doubt over the success the programme. For this reason the list of the landless people is to be made after checking and rechecking and ensure to distribute properly.
Housing Authority Khulna office source said that 33 acres of land of Khalishpur Housing Estate of the city are illegally occupied by the landless people for a long time and that area is called as 'Bastuhara Colony'. The landless people of the area appealed to the Prime Minister for allocation in their name in 2013 and a project had been made in the name of 'Bangobondhu Nagor'.
Source said that the Head Office of the Housing Authority directed to build multistoried building of flat size 450 square feet on October-23, 2014. The proposal of the project has been approved by the Chairman of Housing Authority and was sent to Works Ministry on February-02, 2015.
Executive Engineer of Housing Authority Khulna Kazi Fazlur Rahman said that this project has been made on the basis of order of Prime Minister's Office and the decision of the board meeting of Housing Authority. The list of the allocators has been finalised in 2013.
