GAIBANDHA, July 10 (BSS): Two villages under Shaghata upazila in the district were brought under rural electrification network by Gaibandha Palli Biddyut Samity (GPBS)Wednesday.
A simple ceremony was also held on the occasion at Anantapur Government Primary School of the upazila with area director of the samity Abdul Aziz Mondal in the chair.
Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangshad and local lawmaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah addressed the function as the chief guest and upazila chairman AKM Golam Shahid Ranzu and general manager of GPBS Arif Ahmed were present as the special guests.
Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah said past BNP-Jamaat alliance government was fully responsible for creating the country's power crisis as it did not work properly.
The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after assuming power in 2009 took initiatives to solve the country's power crisis through setting up new power plants, he said.
At present more than 10,000-MW electricity is being generated in the country but only 3,300 MW electricity was produced due to the mismanagement in the power sector during the past BNP-Jamaat government, he also alleged.
By 2021, all the villages would be brought under rural electrification programme to turn the country into a middle income one through changing the living standard of the people, he added.
Later, Rabbi formally inaugurated the electrification programme at Anantapur and Baraikandi villages under Kachua union of the upazila as the chief guest. Talking to the BSS, general manager of GPBS Arif Ahmed said a total of 481 families of the two villages would get electricity facility under the programme.
