20 families get solar electricity in remote Gaibandha char

GAIBANDHA, Apr 23: Some 20 families have been brought under electricity in remote Rasulpur Char in Gaibandha's Fulchhari Upazila through solar panel installation, enabling them to light their homes at night and use small electrical appliances.
The project was implemented in collaboration with Green Youth Alliance and The Earth Society and with the support of UK International Development.
Residents said they have been suffering for a long time due to lack of electricity including hindarance in school-going children's studies, night-time security and many other problems.
But now, solar power has enabled children to conveniently study after evening and improved the quality of life of the residents significantly.
Maruf Mia, general secretary of Green Youth Alliance, Gaibandha, said that they will continue such initiatives in the future with the aim of sustainable development and building climate-resilient infrastructure.
Nargis Begum, a resident of the char, said the initiative will facilitate children's studies and make life more convenient for them. "Such an initiative in remote char area of Gaibandha not only brought light, but also positive change in people's lives.
Moina Begum, another beneficiary of the initiative, said kerosene-oil lamp was the only source of light after evening, and oil crisis even made that difficult for them. "Now the guarantee of uninterrupted light has returned to our homes with solar electricity."
