FARIDPUR, Nov 22 (UNB): At least 20 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over previous enmity at Kamdia village in Saltha upazila on Friday.
Witnesses said there had been a long-running enmity between Nurul Islam Matubbar and Siddik Matubbar of the village.
As a sequel to the enmity, men of Siddik Matubbar attacked Mohammad Fakir, supporter of Nurul Islam Matubbar, and chopped him in the morning, leaving him seriously injured.
Later, people of Teharuddin Matubbar of Laxandia village supported by Siddik, equipped with homemade arms, locked in a fierce clash, leaving 20 people injured.
Some 20 houses were also vandalised and looted during the clash. Being informed, police rushed to the spot and took the situation under control.
Five of the injured, including Mohammad Fakir, were admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and Nagarkanda hospital.
Police also arrested Teharuddin Matubbar and his brother Sayeed Matubbar in connection with the clash.
Additional policemen have been deployed in the area to avert further trouble. Nikhil Odhikari, sub-inspector of Saltha Police Station, confirmed the incident.
