20 injured as DIU students clash with locals in Savar

SAVAR, Oct 06 (UNB): At least 20 people were injured after clashes erupted between Daffodil International University (DIU) students and locals at Ashulia union in Savar on Sunday.

A tense situation is prevailing in the area following the incident.

Locals claimed that Hasibul Hasan Antar, a student of DIU, was killed by another student Rahat and his men a few days ago.

But students of DIU vandalised and looted more than 150 shops in the Akram Bazar area of Birulia in Savar on Friday night demanding arrest of the killers.

Later, local people in the Changaon area of Ashulia held a discussion for the safety of life and property.

But in the night, the students vandalised more than 200 shops and houses in the Changao area with sticks and sharp weapons hearing the news of meeting, leaving at least 20 people injured.

Deepak Chandra Saha, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station, said the situation is calm at present.
