20,000 tonnes of bean production likely in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, Dec 05 (BSS): Farmers of the district are expecting to produce 20,000 tonnes of bean during the current season as commercial cultivation of the edible vegetables is gaining ground day by day.

Sources with the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said in the recent year the number of bean farmers is increasing because of economic prospect of the crop.

The sources said usually bean is cultivated on abandoned lands and homesteads. But many people cultivate bean on a commercial basis.

The farmers have cultivated bean on 2,600 hectares in the current season as against 2,550 hectares in the last year.

Bean is being cultivated on a large scale in different areas of Shibpur, Belabo, Raipura and Polash upazila.

The harvesting of the vegetables has already started in the district.
