20,960 hectares of land to be brought under potato farming in Naogaon

NAOGAON, Dec 03: About 20,960 hectares of land will come under potato farming in the district in the ongoing Robi season.

A target has been set to produce around 482,080 tonnes of potatoes, officials at the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said.

They further said Diamant, Heera, Kufri Shindhuri, Cardinal, Petronese, Granola, Lal Pakri, Sada Pakri, Gahrai and Shil Bilati varieties of potatoes are being cultivated in the district this season.

One Asim Ghosh of Raninagar upazila said, "We are preparing land for potato farming while some of us have already cultivated the crop after early harvest of Aman paddy.''

Deputy Director of Naogaon DAE Shamsul Wadud stated the field level agriculture officers are cooperating with the peasants for sorting out quality seeds to sow them in the field.

Further assistance will be provided to the farmers when the potato plants will start growing in a couple of days, Wadud said.
