BAGERHAT, May 24 (UNB): Forest Robbers kidnapped 25 fishermen and looted valuables from 12 fishing trawlers in Pashur river in Mongla upazila and at Sonarchar in the Bay of Bengal on Friday night.
Officer-in-charge of Harbaria forest camp Abu Sufian said members of 'Awal Bahini' swooped on the fishing trawlers at night and kidnapped the fishermen.
The robbers demanded Tk 50,000 to 1 lakh as ransom for each of the fishermen to let them go free unhurt, threatening to kill them if their demand is not met by the stipulated time.
National Fisheries Association Sharankhola upazila unit president Md Abul Hossain said a gang of robbers swooped on 12 fishing trawlers in the Bay and looted fishing nets and fish worth Tk one million.
