The 250-bed hospital in Gopalganj is functioning smoothly through providing necessary treatment to the patients despite shortages of doctors, nurses, medical assistants and staff in the hospital. Locals said, lot of patients are coming every day and taking treatment in this hospital. Most of the time hospital authority cannot cope with the situation because of shortage of doctors, nurses and staff. Sometimes situation goes beyond the control. ‘Child, skin and darmolgy and dental and ENT department are suffering badly due to the shortage of doctors. Moreover Medicine and Cardiology departments are functioning properly though there are shortage of junior consultant and anesthetists,’ the locals opined. Besides the government hospital, patients are taking treatment from different private clinics and doctors chambers. Five-upazila health complexes in the district are providing treatment to the patients day and night. These upazila health complexes are also facing problem for the shortage of doctors. There are 68 union health and family welfare centers in five upazilas of the district. These centers are giving healthcare service to the people of respective areas very efficiently. Civil Surgeon of Gopalganj Dr Sirajul Islam said they are providing treatment to the patients in 24 hours relentlessly in the 250- bed hospital, five upazila heath complexes and 68 union health and family welfare centers, though there are shortage of doctors, nurses and staff, according to BSS.
