SIRAJGANJ, Dec 20: People have been suffering much due to a sorry state of the 25 km long Chandaikona-Hatikumrul link road on the Dhaka-Bogra Highway.
Locals said they have to spend two or three hours extra for the bad condition of the road. They claimed that the authority concerned did not take any step regarding this.
Official sources said movement of goods-laden trucks and frequent flood damaged the road badly. Heavy vehicles from Bogra, Gaibandha, Rangpur, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Panchgore, Thakurgaon, Joypurhat and Dinajpur districts use the road to go to capital. As a result, numerous potholes have developed at several points. The situation is deteriorating day by day.
"I have seen some tragic accidents on the road. The drivers have to struggle to pass through the road," said truck driver Abdur Rashid of Shibganj upazila.
Executive engineer of Roads and Highways Department (RHD), Sirajganj, Ahad Ullah said the repair work will start soon as a big amount of money has already allotted for it.
