3 get death sentence for murder in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, Nov 30 (UNB): A court here on Sunday convicted three people and sentenced them to death for killing a schoolboy in 2010.
The convicts are-Alamgir, Shambhu Charan Das and Manir Hossain of Madhabdi in Sadar upazila.
The court also fined them Tk 0.1 million each, in default, to suffer one year more rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, Shohag, 13, a class VII student of Madhabdi SP Institute and son of Jakir Hossain of Madhabdi area, was kidnapped by the convicts on February 20, 2010.
Later, the convicts demanded TK 20 lakh as ransom from Jakir Hossain over phone. They strangled Shohag to death failing to realise the money and dumped the body. His body was found in a field on the following day.
Jakir Hossain, filed a case with Sadar Police Station on the same day.
After examining the records and witnesses, District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Shafiqul Karim handed down the verdict acquitting four other accused as their guilt could not be proved.
