3 killed, 44 injured in road accidents

BARISAL, Mar 2 (UNB): Three people were killed and 20 others injured when a bus plunged into a roadside ditch on Dhaka-Barisal Highway at Rampatti in Babuganj upazila early Sunday.

The deceased were identified as bus driver Rustom Ali, 40, supervisor Iajmul Hossain, 30, and helper Raju, 20.

Police said the accident took place around 3 am when the Barisal-bound bus of 'Meghna Paribahan' from Dhaka tumbled into the ditch, killing the three on the spot and the 20 others injured.

The injured were taken to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

A BSS report from Rangamati says: At least 24 students were injured in a road accident in Bangchhori area under Kaptai upazila of the district on Saturday evening.

Police said the accident occurred when a picnic bus turned turtle on the road as its driver lost control over the steering in the area, leaving 24 students injured.

The injured were sent to different hospitals.
