3 killed, 66 hurt in road accidents

RANGAMATI, May 31 (UNB): A woman was killed and 28 people were injured as a bus overturned at Manikchhari in the district town on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Sajeda Akther,22 Manikchhari police camp in-charge SI Jakir Hossain said the Rangamati-bound bus from Sylhet overturned on the road when its driver lost control over the steering at about 8:30 am, leaving Sajeda dead on the spot.

BSS reports from Barisal: A police official was killed and 13 others were injured in a road accident in Eachladi area on the Dhaka-Barisal Highway under Uzirpur upazila of the district this morning.

The deceased was Mokhlesur Rahman, 45, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Gournadi thana.

Another report from Rangpur says: A truck driver was killed and 25 others were injured in a road accident at Domdoma Bridge point on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway today, police sources said.

The accident occurred when a Dhaka bound potato-laden truck from Rangpur and a Nilphamari bound passenger bus from Gaibandha collided head-on from the opposite directions at the point leaving 25 persons injured.

Driver of the ill-fated truck Abdul Malek, 47, son of Abdus Samad at Mahiganj area in Rangpur city succumbed to his injuries at the RMCH this noon.
