GAIBANDHA, Nov 3 (BSS): Three villages under Fulchhari upazila in the district have been brought under rural electrification network by Gaibandha Palli Bidyut Samity (GPBS) on Saturday.
A simple function was also held on the premises of Kathur Govt Primary School under Udakhali union of the upazila with area director of the samity Shamsuzzoha Bablu in the chair.
Advocate Fazley Rabbi Miah, MP, addressed the function as the chief guest and upazila chairman Abu Sayeed and general manager of GPBS Arif Ahmed was present as the special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, veteran parliamentarian Advocate Fazley Rabbi Miah said past BNP-Jamaat alliance government is fully responsible for creating the country's power crisis.
Referring to various steps undertaken by the previous AL government led by Sheikh Hasina to solve the country's power crisis, local lawmaker said the then AL government from 1996-2001 initiated many projects including setting up power plants to increase the country's power generation.
But, the BNP-Jamaat govt during its tenure did not take any initiative to implement those projects, which deepened the crisis; he said adding that the present government faced serious challenges in meeting the growing demand of electricity due to the mismanagement in the power sector during the past BNP-Jamaat government.
Considering the growing demand of electricity, the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after assuming office in 2009 had added additional power to the national grid and was enable to reduce the electricity crisis by setting up new power plants.
Later, Rabbi formally inaugurated the electrification programme in Salua, Ratanpur and Nilkuthi villages of the upazila by pressing a switch of a bulb as the chief guest.
A large number of people including the officials of GPBS, public representatives, social workers, political leaders and local elite were present on the occasion.
