While contacted one official of DC offices said all brickfields are using coal for burning bricks as according to brick burning control ordinance 2004, the owners are prohibited from using all kind of firewood.
All the brickfields in the district would collectively produce around 300 million bricks at an estimated price of Tk 2400 million or so.
DC office sources said the industries are growing rapidly in the district and all the brick kilns are operating with proper license from the government and they are also complying with environment laws.
However there is no energy efficient kiln in the district and it is observed that improving kiln efficiency in the brick making industry program of UNDP is still not maintained by the brickfield owners of Nilphamari as it requires huge investment.

Abdur Razzak, a brickfield owner of Sadar upazila, said gas burnt bricks are very good in quality but gas is not available in the district.
Sources said brick making industry is very profitable. At present price of brick is Tk 8,000 of 1,000 pieces (unit) and a brick field owner who produce 10 million brick earn more than Tk 3.0 million as profit.
