37,375 hectares brought under maize cultivation in Chuadanga

CHUADANGA, Dec 23 (BSS): Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has taken up a massive plan to cultivate maize in four upazilas of the district during the season.

DAE sources said a total 37,375 hectares of land have been brought under maize cultivation in the area this year with the production target of 3,17,740 tonnes of maize.

Of the total land 12,675 hectares have been brought under the cultivation in Sadar upazila, 9,200 hectares in Alamdanga upazila, 12,250 hectors in Damurhuda upazila and 3,250 hectors in Jibannagar upazila.

Cultivation of the crop on vast tracts of abandoned and sandy char lands in the area is bringing a significant economic change to the poor farmers and unemployed people.

The harvesting of maize in the district is expected to start from March next year the DAE source said.
