40,925 farmers to get incentive for Aus farming in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, May 3 (BSS): A total of 40,925 farmers will get cash incentives of Tk 58.4 million (5.84 crore) to buy seeds and fertilisers for the cultivation of Aus paddy in the current Kharif-1 season in eight districts under Rajshahi division.
Of the total, 35,900 farmers will get incentives for cultivation of high yielding aus on 35,900 bighas of land 5,025 farmers for Nerica paddy on 5,025 bighas of land.
Each of the interested farmers will get Tk 1,350 for aush paddy cultivation while Tk 1,970 for Nerica paddy farming.
Besides, each of the farmers, who wish to cultivate aus paddy, get five kilograms seed, 20 kilograms urea, 10 kilograms DAP, 10 kilograms MOP and cash of Tk 400 for irrigation purpose.
On the other hand, farmers who intend to cultivate Nerica paddy, get 10 kilograms seed, 20 kilograms urea, 10 kilograms DAP, 10 kilograms MOP and Tk 400 for irrigation and Tk 400 for weeding.
Sazder Rahman, Additional Director-in-Charge of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), told the news agency that the distribution of incentives will start very soon. He hoped that distribution will be fair.
He said the agricultural incentives will help boosting aus paddy production thereby the country's total production will be enhanced. He expected that around 70,000 tonnes of additional rice will be produced.
Agriculturist Sazdar Rahman said the aush farming is very much cost effective as it requires less production cost and faceless natural calamity.
