410 farmers get free flood tolerant Aman seeds in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, July 12 (BSS): A total of 410 farmers of two upazilas in the district got flood tolerant Aman seeds from a ngo today at free of cost.

RDRS Bangladesh distributed the seeds to the farmers of flood prone areas of Fulchhari and Shaghata upazilas under IRRI (International Rice Research Institute)and-STRASA (Stress Tolerant Rice for Poor Farmers in Africa and South Asia) project funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation of the USA, official sources said.

A simple ceremony was held on the occasion at Nader Hossain Shishu Niketan under Fulchhari upazila with Rafiqur Rahman, principal of the institution in the chair.

Upazila agriculture extension officer Maskar Ali addressed the function as the chief guest and lecturer of Burail School and College AKM Manjurul Alam was present as the special guest.

The ceremony was also addressed, among others, by technical officer (Agriculture) of the organization Saiful Islam, director of the institute Abdus Salam and farmer Joynul Abedin.

Speaking on the occasion, upazila agriculture extension officer Maskar Ali said the seed of BINA Dhan 11 variety were not damaged despite remaining the transplanted seedlings under flood water at a stretch 15-20 days.
