KHULNA, Aug 17: About 44 villages under 8 coastal Upazilas of the district are to be illuminated by electricity in the current month of the year. Under the project, around 10 thousand and 500 families, 30 industries and 20 irrigation pumps will have access to electricity. Khulna Polli Biddyut Samiti (PBS) is implementing the project and 496 villages have been electrified in the last 15 years of this area.
Concerned sources said that Khulna PBS started its functioning from the year 2000 aiming electrification in villages, creating employment opportunity to develop the industry and providing irrigation system to increase food deficit in rural area. So far, 66 per cent of people have got access to electricity.
A total of 70 thousand electric lines have been connected in the houses, 8 thousand in commercial establishments, 12 hundred industrial units, 13 hundred connections with irrigation pumps have been provided with electricity in this region.
Khulna PBS sources said that the electrification work of 170 km has been started from January in 8 Upazilas of the district.
The project covers the villages of the Jhileradanga, Aranghata, Chak Hassan khali, Araji Dumuria, eastern South Mikasimil of Dumuria Upazila, No. 1 Koira, Maharajapura, Fultola, Antabuniya, Caukuni, Islampur, Boro Kacharibari, Bhagaba, Surikhali, Jorasing, Patakhali of Koira Upazila, Siragati, Madhyamapara, Durjanimahal, Hijalatala, Alaipur of Rupsha Upazila, Sahapara, Hasimapura, Orabuniya, Gajipara, Kumakhali, Skulapara, Araji Bhabanipur of Paikgacha Upazila, Laskarpur, Pir Hajigrama, Uttarakola, Malikapura of Terokhada Upazila, Moladanga, Jangusiya, Dakop Tiladanga, Laksikhola, Baraitala, Cunakuri of Dighalia Upazila and Gowghara and Munshibari of Batiaghata Upazila of the district.
Khulna PBS General Manager Shahiduzzaman informed that 80 per cent installation works of electricity have been completed and the rest of the work will be completed by this month. Assistant General Manager Kamrul Hasan of Paikgacha Upazila said that 3000 consumers will get electricity line in 6 villages of the Upazila.
