5-day Kartiany Puja celebrations begin in Magura today

MAGURA, Oct 28: The 64-year old Kartiany Puja a 5-day festivity of the Hindu community starts tomorrow (Wednesday). The Puja will end on Sunday.
Shatish Majhi of Nanduali area in Magura town initiated the Puja for the first time in the district in 1950. From then on the Puja is being observed in the district with its dimension widening every year.        
Magura town has now worn a new look as number of colourful gates have been erected throughout the town. Nine Puja mandaps of the district have been decorated colourfully with attractive pandals. The town looks more festive with the arrival of evening when thousands of colourful bulbs are illuminated.
 A fair is also arranged in the town in observance of the Puja. Toys, cosmetics, furniture, clothes, household goods are available at reasonable prices while huge sale is performed in the fair.
 About 0.2 million people are supposed to visit Magura during the Puja. Even people from Nepal, Sree Lanka and India come to Magura to get the taste of this festival.
When contacted Bashudeb Kudu, general secretary of Magura District Puja Udjapan Parishad said, Magura has been holding this tradition for about 64 years. We are grateful to all classes of people as they cooperate with us in many ways.  Through the festival communion between Muslim and Hindu community deepens as volunteers of the Muslim community also take a vital role in maintain law and order situation during the festival.
